Ximeno Gomez appointed as President

Both members of the Armed Forces and Worker's Council attend ceremony, in anticipation of the new president

Ximeno Gomez was sworn into the office of the President of Lingor today. The ceremony concluded earlier today and without incident, as expected by Military Police of the LAF.

Gomez’ potential Presidency has been a widespread topic over the island. The former Defense Minister has proven controversial, given his stances on the conflict and both major factions within it, as he has consistently advocated and ordered the LAF to take a softer and more diplomatic approach. Hardliner officers have decried these stances as ‘soft’ and ‘ignoring history’, which has placed Gomez in near-constant conflict with the wider Corps of Officers. He was nonetheless appointed by now-former President Toledano six months ago, directly before announcing his resignation.

Unusually the ceremony was attended by leaders of the Worker’s Council, which typically shun the ceremony, due to conflict between the factions which has lasted longer than a century. Gomez reportedly enjoys good relationships with several Council leaders due to the aforementioned approach to diplomacy.

According to some of the Council leaders, Gomez extended invitations with protections similar to the LIAA1 to them and several took the now-President up on his offer. They reportedly did have to clear the border checkpoints and ensuing inspections but all were allowed to enter the National Government’s region without issue.
