Rising Tensions

As the Malden Government misses it's second promised deadline, a new alliance forms

Open riots have broken out in several Malden towns after PrĂ©sident Moulin’s government failed to meet it’s second deadline. The deadline, set after the previous failure to reach an agreement with the Autonomous Region of Madeira and Portugal, promised measures to easen the impact of the looming economic crisis. PrĂ©sident Moulin announced the result of the talks in a pre-recorded address earlier today.

In response, several hundred people took to the streets all over the island according to eye witness accounts. The riots ultimately resulted in serious skirmishes with Military Police, during which 56 civilians and 38 soldiers were injured, some remaining in critical condition. During the skirmishes, rogue radio operators managed to hijack the frequency reserved for the National Emergency System, and broadcast a message announcing the formation of a new entity dubbed ‘Le GuĂ©rilla Populaire’ and urged citizens to join the local chapters.

An anonymous insider has verified that the guerrilla is responsible for the broadcasts.

This morning, Military Police promptly took retaliatory actions against these radio operators, making 17 arrests in several towns and seizing several devices used to hijack the frequency. Citizens claimed to have heard warning shots fired during some of these raids.

According to Colonel César Maçon, an internal investigation is underway to rule out internal sabotage. Président Moulin has refused to provide any comments on the riots.
